Fundamentals 17 in the class.

Once again covered open guard skills. Started with general skill drills. Working up to specific sweeps including leg reap and hook sweeps when your partner is standing. Also combined these with front and back sweeps.

We also covered foot in bicep sweep and then revisited butterfly sweep, including setup from closed guard.

Had a quick roll with Alex and Matt after class and gave them some pointers on improvements to their game.

Tonight was Richards last night at GSW. Sad to see another member of our close community leave us. Although Richard will no doubt be seen on the mats in the future, I know it will not be as regularly as he would like. Good luck in the Bay and I hope the new job leads you to what you desire. I'll certainly miss you at the club but I now you'll keep in touch.

This comment doesn't particularly relate to Thursday...

It's great to see so many new people in class, and it certainly keeps the more experienced people on their toes as these newcomers move into the grappling class. However, I think the need for care when going for subs should be stressed continually, especially to newer people, if we want to keep our injury rate low. I don't want to have to avoid certain people because they don't have the control to keep from injuring me.
